Tiler in ParisTiling and bathrooms in Parisian apartments
Bathroom renovation, walk-in showers, floors and wall tiles: master tiler Ozcan Beyazgul works throughout Paris, from the 1st to the 20th arrondissement, with the organisation that a job in an apartment building requires.

A tiler used to working in apartments
In Paris, almost every tiling job is on an upper floor. Before starting, we check access: the width of the stairs, the size of the lift, the turns on the landings. A large-format tile or a sheet of moisture-resistant plasterboard does not fit everywhere, and this is planned when the materials are chosen.
During the work, we protect the shared areas, bag the rubble and remove it as we go, and keep to the working hours set by the building’s rules. Noisy cutting is grouped together and, where possible, done wet to limit dust. We advise you to let the caretaker or the managing agent know before the job starts.
Timber floors and old terracotta tiles
Haussmann and older buildings often have timber floors, sometimes covered with old terracotta tiles or with tiles bonded to a thin screed. These substrates move more than a concrete slab: before tiling, we check how rigid the floor is, strengthen it if needed, then choose the right preparation, such as a fibre-reinforced levelling compound or an uncoupling membrane.
Weight and heights matter too: tiles add load to the floor and raise its level, which can mean reworking thresholds or trimming doors. When the old covering is sound, it can sometimes stay in place: we explain the conditions in our article on tiling over existing tiles. Otherwise, a screed or levelling compound brings the floor back to level.
Bathrooms and walk-in showers on upper floors
Parisian bathrooms are often only a few square metres, with constraints on height and drainage. For a level-access walk-in shower, we first check the height available under the floor covering and the distance to the soil stack: depending on the case, a low-profile tray or a tileable shower tray creates the fall without breaking into the slab.
For a full bathroom renovation, we handle the strip-out, the plumbing changes of the room, the waterproofing under the tiles, then the tiling and the refitting of the sanitaryware. To size a shower in a small room, see also our guide to walk-in shower dimensions.
Acoustics and the building’s rules
Replacing carpet or parquet with tiles changes how footsteps carry to the apartment below. Some buildings then require acoustic insulation under hard floors: in that case we plan a suitable underlay, perimeter joints along the walls and skirting boards kept free of the floor.
The building’s rules also set the working hours and sometimes the use of the lift. Read them before contacting us, or send them with your request: we take them into account in the schedule and the quote.
Floors, wall tiles and large formats in Paris
In living rooms and entrance halls, large-format tiles make rooms look bigger, provided the substrate is perfectly flat. In bedrooms, wood-effect tiles give the look of timber with the upkeep of a tiled floor. Kitchens and bathrooms readily take metro tiles or cement tiles, a staple of the Parisian style.
For a splashback or a bathroom, wall tiling needs straight walls and a careful layout around sockets, windows and water supplies. You will find examples of floors and bathrooms in our projects.
What a tiler costs in Paris
In Paris and Île-de-France, labour is generally 20 to 30% higher than in the provinces. Beyond the price per m², the cost of a Parisian job depends on access, the floor level, parking for deliveries, rubble removal and the size of the rooms: a small area costs more per square metre.
For an idea of the figures, see our guides to tiling costs per m² and bathroom renovation costs. Only a quote drawn up after a visit is binding, and it details every item: preparation, laying, grouting, finishing and removal.

Frequently asked questions about our jobs in Paris
Do you work in every arrondissement of Paris?
Yes, from the 1st to the 20th arrondissement, as well as in the inner suburbs and across Île-de-France. Simply give the address of the job and the floor in your quote request: we prepare the visit with the access and the building’s constraints in mind.
Should the managing agent be told before tiling work?
It depends on the building’s rules: many set working hours and some require acoustic insulation under hard floors. In any case, we advise you to inform the managing agent or the caretaker before the job, for the use of the lift, the protection of shared areas and the removal of rubble.
Can parquet be replaced with tiles in an apartment?
Often, yes, on three conditions: a floor rigid enough to take tiles, a height that works with the doors and thresholds, and compliance with the building’s acoustic requirements. We check these three points during the visit and, if needed, suggest a suitable preparation and underlay.
How is rubble removed from an apartment?
Rubble from the strip-out is bagged in the room, carried down while the stairs or lift are protected, then taken to a suitable collection point. This item appears on the quote, because it depends on the quantity removed, the floor level and access to the building.
