Choosing your tiles

Large-format tiles: how to choose them for your home

Do you love clean surfaces and subtle lines? Here are a few ideas to help you think about the size, finish and atmosphere of your new tiles.

Choose a format that suits the room

Tile size shapes the way a room feels. Before choosing, look at the proportions of the space, the doors and windows, and where the furniture sits. Then picture how the tile lines will fit into the room as a whole.

Compare your samples in the room itself. Look at them at different times of day and next to the materials already there: kitchen units, adjoining wooden floors or painted walls.

Create an atmosphere with materials

For a warm feel, pair cream stone-effect tiles with natural wood and simple textiles. A deeper greige gives the floor more presence while keeping the palette understated.

Think about the grout colour too. Do you want to highlight the pattern of the tiles, or are you after a more uniform look? Sharing these preferences with your tiler helps define the result you expect.

Prepare the details of your project

Write down the approximate dimensions of the room, take a few photos and gather the product references of the tiles you like. Also note which areas are involved and when you would like the work done.

These details are the starting point of the conversation. Your tiler can then assess the substrate, the transitions and the constraints of the site before suggesting a solution.
